Associate DVM

At Oakbrook Animal Hospital, we are currently a 4-doctor practice, located in Gardner, KS. Our strong support staff is composed of 7 veterinary technicians, one of which is registered, and half of which have been with us for over 5 years! In addition to our vet techs, we have 5 client service representatives and 3 kennel technicians. At our practice, we truly value the quality of care over quantity as we believe in the human-animal bond and understand that this bond enhances the quality of people’s lives. Our mission is to provide our patients the quality veterinary care we would expect for our own pets. 

Our hours are 8:00am- 5:30pm Monday through Friday, and 8:00am- 12:00pm on the first Saturday of every month. We encourage veterinarians of all experience levels to apply, as our doctors are both eager and willing to share their knowledge and mentor a new graduate.

About the area: Gardner, Kansas, is located in the southwest corner of Johnson County, Kansas. While it is typically known as a small town, it has progressively become one of the fastest-growing cities in Kansas, mainly due to its natural amenities and endless possibilities. It is rather affordable and provides many different types and styles of homes to choose from. In 2015 it was ranked the 5th safest city in Kansas due to its very low crime rate.

Client Services Representative

The purpose of the Client Services Representative (CSR) is to serve as the receptionist for Oakbrook Animal Hospital. The primary responsibilities of the CSR are to be cheerful and accurate and to maintain a smooth, well-planned, and orderly flow of clients and patients. This includes record-keeping and clerical duties as well as providing support to the health care team. These service functions include but are not limited to reception (visitor and telephone), maintenance of veterinary medical records, account maintenance, cash processing, data entry, word processing, and mail service. This position requires a practical knowledge of hospital organization and services, the basic rules and regulations governing visitors and animal patient treatment, data transcription, word processing and practical knowledge of the standard procedures, veterinary records, and terminology used in the hospital.

Veterinary Technician

The Veterinary Technician assists the doctors to the fullest possible extent, to help improve the quality of care given to the patients, and to aid the doctors in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work at Oakbrook Animal Hospital. The Veterinary Technician assists in multiple procedures providing care for animals including physical examinations, dental procedures, surgeries, immunizations, euthanasia as well as client education, marketing, and inventory maintenance. This position requires a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases, their symptoms, means of transmission, treatment and prevention, and other basic preventative health care recommendations. This is an overview of the position and the job responsibilities listed do not encompass the entire position. The veterinary technician is under the direct guidance and supervision of the Lead Veterinary Technician and the veterinarians.

Benefits include no nights, limited weekend hours, discounted services and products for your own pets, yearly uniform allowance.  Full time employees are also eligible for paid time off and paid major holidays, Health, dental, and vision insurance, and 401(k).

Veterinary Assistant

The Veterinary Assistant assists technicians and doctors to improve the quality of care given to the patients. Veterinary Assistants aid technicians and doctors providing restraint to patients during various procedures to include physical examinations, blood draws, toe nail trims, anal gland expressions. They also play a vital role in client education, marketing, and inventory maintenance. This position also requires a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases, their symptoms, means of transmission, treatment and prevention, and other basic preventative health care recommendations. This is an overview of the position and the job responsibilities listed do not encompass the entire position. The veterinary assistant is under the direct guidance and supervision of the Lead Veterinary Technician and the veterinarians.

Benefits include no nights, limited weekend hours, discounted services and products for your own pets, yearly uniform allowance.  Full time employees are eligible for paid time off and paid major holidays, Health, dental, and vision insurance, and 401(k). After 1 year of employment, full time employees are also eligible for scholarship opportunities with Penn Foster to obtain associates in Veterinary Technology.

Kennel Technician

The Kennel Technician provides care and the basic needs of animals that are patients of Oakbrook Animal Hospital including cleaning of cates, runs and ward areas, laundry, walking, and proper feeding, medicating and care of all hospitalized patients. They assist in the overall cleanliness, organization, and maintenance of the clinic. The kennel technician operates under the direct supervision of the Lead Veterinary Technician and the Hospital Manager.
